Gathering information:
We know why you want to build/remodel.
We also know your Wish List.
Now expand the view. Gather more information. Visit other practices. Notice colors that you like, furniture styles, construction details and office "flows". Take photos.
Look for office details that you like in trade journals, and equipment company brochures.
Surf the web for design ideas.
Keep gathering information on items, styles & colors that you like. (Sometimes it is helpful for designers & builders to also know the items you strongly dislike).
Spend time gathering the information for your ideal dental office.

Your Wish List
Now that we know why you want to build a new office or remodel your existing office, start dreaming.
Create a "wish list" of your ideal office. Do you want a Private Office? How many Operatories? Do you want new equipment? How do you envision the Seating Area & Reception desk?
Be descriptive, add as many details as possible.
Get staff input on the ideal office. What would they like to see.
Now is the time to gather ideas. Collect ideas.

How to begin a design project?
I am frequently asked by doctors how they should begin the process of designing or building a new dental office.
My first advice is to ask WHY do they want to remodel. Set the goal line!
Are you adding an associate? Do you need a Consultation Room for financial presentations to to increase your closing ratio on treatment plans? Do you need additional Operatories because you are adding a specialist? Is the office old, tired and dated and just needs to be freshened up?
The first step is always to determine why. Then we can look at how to move forward.

Welcome to the blog of Patrick Crowley, Dental Office Designer.
For 18 years I have been designing and building/remodeling private practice medical & dental offices, mostly in the New England region.
I have vast experience in all aspects of specialized medical construction, especially dental offices.
My articles have been published nationwide in medical, dental and construction magazines, and I have presented many seminars over the years on this complex subject.
I want to use this forum to share my unique knowledge and experience with members of the dental community who need advise, tips, pointers or resources when they are designing or building a dental office.
I'll share my thoughts and feel free to post any questions that you may have regarding dental office design, construction, cabinetry, layout or finishes.
I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts, questions and comments.
